Fire Rebuild - Moved In!!

It was so exciting to have our first furnishings walk-thru in a lived-in home! There were dishes in the sink, the pantry was full of food... TP in the bathrooms... clothes in the closet. What a feeling of accomplishment and relief. It has been a busy year!

I thought you might want to see how things are progressing. Most of the large furniture pieces are in, and we've added a few accessories for starters. There is still much accessorizing to do, but we have all agreed to slow down now that the homeowners have moved in. They need to live there a while, adding personality and love to the home piece by piece. This will be slower than usual for me as designer, but I totally agree - it has been a whirlwind of a year, who needs to hurry?

Fire Rebuild: tile and cabinet stain

I have to say, it's been so nice to walk around the house with the tile on the floors... and the stain on the cabinets... even though the place IS scattered, dusty and dirty. Every day the house feels more like a home. As much as I love this phase of design... the construction phase, I am anxiously anticipating the transition to furniture and accessories. Probably because the house is such a beautiful backdrop to anything we put inside! Also because the homeowners will have moved in. There will be music, laughter, and the smell of food in the kitchen. And we will scatter the counters and walls with pretty things to envelope the making of memories. Oh, how I love my job!

FIRE REBUILD, check out this tile!!

For the master bathroom, we found this gorgeous hand painted terra cotta tile from Ann Sacks in Laguna. We will use a full pattern repeat as splash around the tub and vanity, as well as a framed inset with rojo alicante one-inch mosaic border and big chunky limestone frame at shower wall. I can't wait to see it installed! We'll be using a lot of limestone in the master bathroom, as well as porcelain tile that looks like wood. It's so much easier to clean!! The shower floor will be tiled in this cute hexagon mosaic, with the red rojo alicante mosaics bordering at all walls. Scrumptious!
